Katy Garrod Art
Contemporary art inspired by nature
ABOUT
I am an artist based in the beautiful Chiltern hills in South Oxfordshire UK.
I am enchanted by nature - from the microscopic to the magnificent and everything in-between.!
My art reflects this passion and explores ways to portray the exquisite detail of colours forms and elements of landscapes that are unique to particular places.
My paintings are often semi-abstracted in which animal and plant forms can often be found. Sometimes I stray into complete abstraction when trying to capture a particular feeling about a place.
I use mainly acrylics on canvas, wooden board and paper. My works are usually multi-layered and my process involves covering and uncovering lower layers to reveal glimpses of colours, forms and textures. I use charcoal, graphite, inks and collage and occasionally oil paints and oil pastels.
I am a keen walker, mountain biker and rock climber. These activities have taken me to wild and magical places all over the UK and abroad. I try to capture in my art the sense of freedom and joy I feel in these surroundings.
I have always been a naturalist who loved to draw and paint. I originally trained as a veterinary scientist to PhD level and am now able to combine both passions. My artistic study has included working with Caroline Hulse FRA, Ashley Hanson, Lewis Noble and Alice Sheridan. I completed the Creative Visionary Programme with Nicholas Wilton in 2019.
