Wells Farm Stream' is one of two pictures (see also Wells Farm Field) inspired by this haven for wildlife. The farm is named after the numerous springs emerging on the valley side. The steam area is fringed by mature trees including Black Poplars and Willows and the adjacent bank was alive with butterflies, bees and beetles, including 5 Spotted Burnets - a striking black and red, daytime flying moth. 
 
Wells Farm is being returned to a paradise for wildlife by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust by striking a balance between farming wheat and barley and creating a thriving habitat for native species. The open fields are edged by six-metre wide margins that have been sown with a colourful wildflower seed mixture which attract insects and small mammals. In addition, a wide grassy bank crossing the arable fields from north to south has been sown with a variety of tufted grasses to provide cover for spiders and beetles. These in turn help to control pests.
 
The Chilterns are a crescent of chalk hills running primarily through Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The nature reserves protect ancient pastures that are home to rare species of flora and fauna.
