Spread your wings
Spread your wings is one of my pictures inspired by small groups of finches and starlings feeding in coastal reed beds I visited this year.
The reed beds are a wild ever changing environment, home to an amazing variety of rare birds and animals. In this picture I wanted to contrast of the dark waters and forms of the reeds with a small flock of birds silhouetted against a wild sky.
The painting has many layers with the brighter colours of the under painting peeking through, much like the bright pops of colour from the lichens growing on the twisted branches of the few shrubby trees bordering the reed beds.
